Crime Description:
Veronica Robles was violently and mercilessly murdered in her home in Rogers, Arkansas, allegedly by Sergio Morales-Carrera, an illegal alien. Veronica’s husband, Jose, is Carrera’s cousin. Carrera was a guest in their home for less than a month when asked to leave because he was causing problems. On the evening of July 16, 2008, Carrera and Veronica were having an argument. Carrera shot her multiple times in the presence of her four of children. The youngest was five years old.
Jose and the eldest son were not home at the time of the execution. Mistika, 15, saw Carrera drive up and discovered a gun in his truck. She called 911, but moments later Carrera retrieved the .45-caliber handgun and shot Veronica several times in the head. (1) Carrera drove away in his truck.
Thirty-seven year old Veronica died at the scene. Alex, 19, heard the arguing and saw Carrera shoot his mother twice in the head. He chased Carrera and then attended to his mother who was bleeding profusely. (2)
According to a neighbor, the three younger children ran from the house screaming in unison, “He killed our mother! Stop him!” (3)
Morales-Carrera was apprehended and charged with capital murder, punishable with life in prison or the death penalty. He was accused by the prosecutor of “acting with premeditation and deliberation” before murdering Veronica. (1) Two other men suspected of being illegal aliens were arrested on charges of hindering apprehension of the suspect. (3)
